9 Best Camping Meals
Camping is a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the great outdoors, but one of the biggest challenges of camping is figuring out what to eat once you finally get out there. You”ll want something that's delicious, easy to prepare, and will stay fresh while you are outside all day.
We're here to help! Here, we'll share our favorite camping meals- along with tips on how to prepare them and how to keep them fresh. We've got 3 choices each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Hopefully, this will help you build your perfect camping menu.
Breakfast
For breakfast, you’ll want something that is not only delicious but hearty to help jumpstart your body for the day. Below are the three breakfast options that I find easy to make and satisfying.
Pancakes
Pancakes are a classic breakfast option altogether, and especially easy to make during your camping experience for a delicious breakfast. Simply mix together 1.5 cups of flour, 2 tbsp of sugar, 3.5 tbsp of baking powder, and a tsp of salt. Then, add 1.5 cups of milk and 1 large egg. You can also add a tsp of vanilla to give it some extra flavor. Mix the ingredients until you have a batter. You can also use a premade mix such as Bisquick; just follow the directions on the package. Cook the batter in a greased skillet with butter until the top is covered in little bubbles. Then, flip it over and cook until that side is golden brown. Serve with your favorite toppings- syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is another classic, easy, and delicious breakfast option. Simply combine oatmeal, water or milk, and salt according to the package into a pot. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer until the oatmeal is cooked thoroughly. Then add your preferred toppings, such as butter, fruit, nuts, or honey.
Eggs
Eggs are not only a quick and easy breakfast option, but it is super high in protein that can help keep you full until lunch. They can be cooked in a variety of ways- fried, scrambled, or poached to your liking. You can enjoy them with a side of toast, pancakes, biscuits, or fruit.
Lunch
Another super important meal to keep you energized throughout the day is lunch. Below are the three options that I enjoy often when camping.
Sandwiches
Sandwiches are a classic lunch option that is both easy to make and portable, so you can make it and go. Just grab your favorite bread and add in your favorite fillings such as meat, cheese, condiments, vegetables, or hummus. My favorite combination for sandwiches always included turkey, cheese, and mustard or honey mustard.
Salad
Salad is a super healthy and refreshing lunch option that can be made with a variety of greens, vegetables, and proteins. You can also include croutons, cheese, and bacon. Afterwards, you can top your salad with your favorite dressing like ranch or french dressing- or just keep it plain.
Soup
Soup is not only easy, but a warm and comforting lunch option that can be made in advance and reheated over a campfire. If you make soup beforehand at home, you can find pretty much any recipe on Pinterest or in cook books. The easiest and quickest option is to just grab a can or two and heat it over the campfire in a pot.
Dinner
Dinner is the final large meal of the day that can help nourish your body after a long day of hiking, fishing, and other camping activities. This will also keep you full until breakfast in the morning.
Hamburgers
Hamburgers and hot dogs are a classic camping dinner that is both easy to make and delicious. Grill them in a skillet over a campfire or on a grill. Serve on a bun with your favorite toppings, such as ketchup, mustard, relish, or onions. Don’t forget the cheese!
Chicken
Chicken is a super versatile protein that can be cooked in a variety of ways over a campfire. Grill, fry, or bake chicken breasts, thighs, or drumsticks. You can even make sandwiches or bbq with it! Serve with your favorite vegetables or sides. Chicken is a wonderful and clean protein full of vitamins that can help nourish your body as well.
Fish
Fish- like chicken- is a versatile, healthy, and delicious option that can be cooked over a campfire. Grill, foil-wrap, or bake fish filets. Much like chicken, serve with your favorite vegetables or sides. Fish is not only high in protein, but super good in omega-3 and other necessary vitamins.
